Save The Town Centre with a casino
Instead of moving the casino outside the city limits where the city will still get all the social problems and not a lot of the revenue, why not put it in The Town Centre where the building is about three-quarters empty and it has a restaurant, tons of parking and is in the downtown area? I think that is where they should put it.
Stop resisting change
People need to calm down about this casino issue. Winnipeg has had two casinos for about as long as I can remember and while Winnipeg has a myriad of social issues, not one of them can be traced back solely to gambling. The city needs to face the fact that change is coming — stop resisting, just let it happen.
Let’s think outside the box
Why is the city so focused on bringing a casino to Brandon? Surely there are other attractions that could be developed in the city to bring people here? What about a zoo, a kids’ midway (like Tinkertown in Winnipeg)? Somebody must have some new ideas to make Brandon a destination spot!
Let’s build something more family friendly
I’m a gambler, but no casino is needed in Brandon. Brandon is our city and twice the voters have said no. If we are to have a casino, it must be owned and operated by the City of Brandon and our provincial government, equally. One casino built in our city is not enough to do really anything. Let’s build six and change Brandon’s name to Las Vegas No. 2 and make it a tourist attraction, then we can all move out of town. Maybe our council should be looking at a real water park instead, like all other cities have, something the whole family can use, together.
Who will pay for it?
It’s just dumb to say “THEY” will build something else than a casino. Like a water park or some “family-friendly” attraction. But who are THEY? THEY want to build a casino. THEY have big, deep pockets and can get a licence from the province. THEY are also our elected officials. I don’t hear of any THEYS lining up to build anything that would have as much cash coming into Brandon as a casino would. And that’s what will help us in the long run have things like lots of tourists and lower taxes. Then WE — not THEY — can build our own water park. Get it?
Need more family-oriented entertainment
Well, they are at it again. We need a casino in Brandon? Please let’s let this silly idea die already. Instead, we need more of what Healthy Brandon is doing. Get more healthy family-oriented things into the city. There has to be more ideas out there. As I have seen mentioned before, a terrific idea would be to bring in a waterslide (of a larger magnitude than Portage la Prairie has). Portage is so busy in the summers you can sometimes not move in the pools. I suggest to start with an outdoor one and make it so it could be “closed in” in the future or if possible close it in right from the get-go. I do not believe Brandon needs more stress on the social services and I do not believe a casino would keep people “spending money at home.”
More losses than gains with a casino
I thought this was a democratic society and I was just wondering how they can go thinking about a casino when it was voted down twice. The people who do want a casino, do they also want all the crime and the addictions and starving families that go with it because it is just not a money-making venture, everybody loses.
