Stopping for jaywalkers causes more accidents
I am so sick and tired of motorist feeling the need to stop for pedestrians when they are not at a legal crosswalk. I do not know how many times I’ve almost rear-ended someone because they slam on their brakes last minute to allow someone to cross. People, you are not doing anybody any favours!
Renaissance Brandon should be made up of business people
Remove Brandon city councillors from Brandon Renaissance and replace them with business people from the downtown area. That would clear the conflict between council and the Renaissance. But I bet that will not happen as councillors want their nose into what happens downtown and I do not agree with that thinking.
Which way you going?
When driving in Brandon you definitely need to be a defensive driver. There is a very low percentage of drivers who use a turning signal and a large percentage who think that they have the right of way coming out of a parking lot.
Prevention ... worth a pound of cure
Forget about techniques for removing graffiti. Don’t we all know that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Why make it easy for the offenders? Lock all the spray paint up. Customers would rather wait a few minutes while a clerk opens a lock rather than have their property defaced.
No early parole needed
People sentenced to jail for breaking our Canadian laws are not allowed to leave the jail until the end of their sentence, or at least until they’ve served two-thirds of the sentence. If sentenced to one year, they automatically get out in nine months, or less, if released on a temporary absence or are paroled etc. Why do we coddle these idiots who break into our houses and businesses, steal our cars and do sexual assaults? Give them longer sentences and no early releases and make them pay full restitution.
’Tis the season
Regarding bus shelters and parks, are they a place to wait for a bus or a place to sit and drink? Kudos to the city police in their effort to remove people from bus shelters and parks but it makes me think of what to expect when warm weather comes. Are people who are out enjoying the outdoors going to find someone sleeping or urinating there? It is happening and it is only going to get worse.
