Sound Off -- May 25, 2012

Keep up the good work

Our business was broken into at midnight on May 21. Police were phoned and the call was responded to. The young lady that took the call was an asset to the police service. The officers that responded to the call were more than efficient. They conducted themselves in a totally professional manor and were very helpful. I won’t mention names but I am sure the officers know who they are. Kudos to the Brandon Police Service for their helpful attitude. We should be grateful we have these ladies and gentlemen looking after our concerns.

Is anyone taking responsibility?

This is regarding the firefighters and city administration. As I understand it, the city put the firefighters and their union through suspensions, demotions, firings, character assassinations and who knows what other in-house punishments, only to finally admit that they made mistakes and pretty much returned everything to where it was. One or more people in city administration made some ill-thought-out, costly decisions. Why have we not heard of any suspensions, demotions or firings from them?

Here’s a history lesson for you

In a Sound Off from a recent paper a person said “if you mean what you say, then do the right thing,” then please, reinstate the Lord’s Day Act on Sundays (referring to Finance Minister Stan Struthers). Well, how wrong can a person be? The Lord’s Sabbath was instituted by God, himself before creation (for all to obey) — Exodus, chapter 20:18-11, “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.” When Constantine was Emperor of Rome, he made it law for people to worship on Sunday (he changed the Lord’s Sabbath to Sunday) and whoever wouldn’t obey he would have them killed. Study your history. Constantine’s wife and eldest son didn’t want to disobey the Lord so Constantine had them killed. Obey the Lord’s commandments and you will do what is right.

No to casino

I can tell you that a casino will not benefit me in any way whatsoever, but it will of course possibly benefit a few businessmen. I can tell you that the people that I know who take the bus tours to casinos do not go out shopping or out to eat, they simply stay in the casino and gamble. I will be watching carefully to see if any council member stands up for the people and votes against this casino as they will be the only ones who will get my vote in the next election.

Get a job — any job!

I cannot understand why the Liberals and NDP are against people working, instead of collecting Employment Insurance. I was raised that if work is available you work. While working a person can look for a better job. At least you are working, being useful and supporting your family. If you only want to work during the summer, then save enough to live for the winter.
