Brandon Sun - PRINT EDITION

Sound Off -- May 27, 2014

Thanks so much for my night at the symphony

This is a big thank you to the gentleman who left a ticket at the box office because he was unable to attend the WSO performance in Brandon. I was the recipient of that ticket and I am very grateful and I had a wonderful time! I will pay it forward. That was out of my reach financially. I am just a middle-aged lady on social assistance and disability, and I just can’t afford things that like, but I sure appreciate the opportunity to go when I get it. So once again thanks very much. I greatly appreciated it. You are a great guy!

Lock it or lose it

Now that spring has sprung, so have all the delinquents who feel that anything not locked in a shed or bolted and chained down on someone’s land is theirs to steal. I had a very successful conversation with a community policing officer after reporting some vandalism on my property and I suggest everybody report even the most minor crime. It helps with the police stats — good for when they ask for funding — and also can result in more squad car patrols at night in your neighbourhood. We have an amazing police force, but they need help to know where the crimes are happening.

Service dogs not just for the blind

Brandon Police Service should realize that service dogs are not just for the blind. I read with interest the article of the soldier having a service dog. If the police officer really did say, “Why do you need one ... you are not blind,” why does a Brandon police officer need a dog? He is not blind, is he? If the police even thought they would realize that service dogs are not just for the blind.

I want names!

These young youths 12 and up — what are the parents doing for them to be out in all hours of the night and early morning doing crime? A big mistake was done not to mention their names in the Brandon Sun for the crime, damage and break-ins they have done. They are old enough for the crime, why not publish who they are and make them work and pay for what they do? (Ed. note: Sorry, it’s against federal law to name minors. Speak to your MP if you want to get the laws changed.)

Adorable fox kits

I would like to say thank you to Tim Smith for those adorable pictures of the fox kits in the Weekend magazine of the Brandon Sun two Saturdays ago. They were absolutely wonderful. Thank you very much.
