Sound Off -- May 29, 2012

Lend a hand

I am so tired of seeing people complaining about the garbage around the city in the Sound Off. It is your city too — grab a garbage bag, a pair of gloves and get out there and pick it up. It is not just the city’s responsibility! It wasn’t the city staff that put it there — it was the citizens of our city. So lend a couple of hands and do your part. Sitting back and complaining about it doesn’t help.

Don’t tell me how much to tip!

To the server saying Brandon people are cheap for not tipping. I always thought tipping was for receiving good service, not a right that you seem to believe. I always leave a tip if I get service worthy of a tip. There are times when I do not because the service has been poor. I never leave the percentage that is marked on my bill. I will decide what tip should be given. I suggest that you give the service that deserves a good tip. I would like to ask if you tip every time someone fills up your gas tank or changes your oil? What would you say if a 20 per cent tip was added to your charge?

Raises all around but not for me

I received my tax bill yesterday. My taxes went up $319. I hope the city budgets very carefully this year so that there will be no tax increase next year as I can’t afford to be paying this every year. Hopefully the school board will listen also. I have not had a raise in two years at work.

Should be up to your employer to pay higher wage

Instead of being mad at the customer for not tipping, why not redirect that energy at your employer to increase your wage so you don’t have to rely on handouts from customers? If enough people followed your advice and stayed home, you would soon have no place to work.

Thanks for all you do

It was nice to see kudos to Memories Chapel for handing out flowers at the cemetery for Mother’s Day, but I would hate to see Brockie Donovan overlooked when they held a beautiful and touching service at their chapel for those who had lost their mothers (followed by refreshments). They started the Tree of Memories at Christmas many years ago, and it has grown into a huge and very comforting service. Hopefully the Mother’s Day service will catch on as well, as it was lovely.
