High school coaches need to work harder

It was disappointing to read in the Brandon Sun sports section that there are no local players on the Brandon University men’s basketball team. Does this mean our local players are not good enough? The message is clear that our local high school coaches must start doing a better job of developing local talent.

More on Habitat

Habitat Brandon built the Massey units through Brandon volunteer labour and with materials donated by Brandon businesses. Why did Habitat Canada not donate these Massey units to the other tenants of the building — the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Friendship Centre? If they had done this, the units could have remained as low-cost housing for people in our community.

Guess I will be leaving my snow tires on

I am more than willing to sign a petition regarding the sanding of our highways and roads. I can’t believe that the government or the city would allow or support this cut that we, as taxpayers, have a right to expect. How dare you! I, for one, will be studding my winter tires and will take them off when I feel it is safe to do so and not a moment before!

Complainers about the disorder and disarray in Brandon store

Don’t blame the employees for the store being messy, blame your fellow shoppers. How many of you have ever opened a package and rather than try to replace it, just thrown it on the floor? Hung a blouse somewhere when you realized you didn’t want it and left it for an associate to put away. Do you ever stop to think about the employees who continuously have to come behind you picking up your messes adding to their workload? Our job is not to pick up after you; it is to assist you in locating your purchases.

Need a policy on bullying

Why does our school board not take more action against preventing bullying. No guts. Put it into your policy procedures, such as “Any staff person that is notified or suspects a student is being bullied and does not take immediate steps against the “bully” and reports it to their supervisor, on up to the superintendent, shall be immediately terminated.” No guts I guess. There are numerous newly trained teachers out there looking for teaching positions.

Where’s the wheat?

Just got my first look at our new “Welcome to Brandon” signs in the Brandon Sun. Truthfully I have not seen anything so ugly and stupid looking (What pray God does it represent?) and the biggest waste of tax dollars since “voice of fire,” remember that one? Brandon has been known as “The Wheat City” for 100 years. Why would the city representatives not incorporate that logo into our signs? Just goes to show — give a politician or a bureaucrat tax dollars and they will find a way to waste it.
