If I can do it, so can you
I’m very happy to have the snow removed from my street despite the small inconvenience of a snow pile left on my driveway. Yes, I shovelled it out and that of my neighbour also. However, I am not 54 — I am 75 and mature enough to know that you can’t expect the taxpayer to do everything for you youngsters.
Thanks for making my day
To the beautiful woman who offered me help in front of The Town Centre the other day — I really would like to give a public thank you to you. I didn’t ask her for anything, she just noticed that I needed a picker-upper and offered me three cigarettes and $20. What she doesn’t know is that I am on disability and that really, really helped me. I am very grateful to her and I just wanted to let her know. I can’t remember her face, but I remember what she looked like on the inside and it was beautiful. To her, thank you so much, you inspired the charity in me and you strengthen my faith in humanity — from the long-haired guy.
Impressed with this city
I am a new resident to both Brandon and Manitoba. I recently moved here from the Estevan, Sask., and so far, my experience in this city can be summed up with one word — “Wow.” My experiences with everything ranging from getting my daily coffee, to purchasing my house have far exceeded my expectations of this city. I am often left wondering why this level of service can’t be found in more places. I have been overwhelmed with the red carpet that has been rolled out before me and my family, as countless people greet me with a friendly smile and a warm level of service rarely found in today’s world of hustle and bustle. Where I come from, people are too often more concerned with their own agenda to be bothered to extend a helping hand, but in Brandon, there seems to be an infectious attitude to go out of one’s way to help others!
Ladies, you don’t need to be victims
It is very sad to see how some men take advantage of good women. These predators get into relationships only for personal gain by intimidation and using guilt tactics. Beware, ladies, you do not need to be a victim of a narcissistic predator.
Kitty can’t stay out all night
Regarding people letting their cats out. Whether they are fixed or not fixed, tattooed or not tattooed, it is too cold to be letting your cats out all night. I see paw prints every morning when I get wake up and these poor cats are left out all night in the cold. People need to remember if they are going to let their cats out, put them on a leash and take them out for five minutes and then back in. You can’t leave them out all night. And if they do, they are going to get trapped and taken to the pound and they will have to pay a fee. So it is just better for everyone if you leave your cats inside for the winter.
What does ‘affordable housing’ really mean?
The way people are talking about “affordable housing” has me shaking my head. If it’s to be subsidized in any substantial way by tax dollars, to my mind, it’s public housing. Just a nicer word. Buying a house has always been the single most expensive and important move in anyone’s life. Since the post-war heyday, it has always been very expensive to own a house. What do people want? They are talking about public housing for low-income folks and emergency shelters for the few truly homeless that can be found in Brandon. Let’s start talking turkey and cut through the bull. And enough “TV tears” from the mayor on this topic.
A new low for Selinger
I just want to know if Premier Greg Selinger’s comments regarding Remembrance Day were due to a lack of understanding or if they were politically motivated. If it was the latter, this government will have indeed reached a new low.
