Simple solution
Regarding the absolute, intolerable nonsense of political correctness within our Canadian culture and society: If you live in Canada, learn to abide by our rules, our culture, our values or else get out and live elsewhere. Don’t come or live here and try to change our rules. This is who we are, what we stand for and what we value as Canadian citizens. If this offends you, then please leave. We should not be changing who we are in order to accommodate every nonsensical, trivial quirk or whim that someone comes up with within our province or within our great nation. Learn to adapt, live with our ways, our cultural values or feel free to leave. That’s enough of this political correctness and nonsense now. Remembrance Day services should be mandatory. Let’s take a vote or a poll on this issue. Aren’t these mandatory in every other country? This is a no-brainer and is called R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Religious zealots are such intolerant bullies
Shame on the Sound Off writer who threatened to boycott businesses using a Happy Holidays sign rather than a Merry Christmas sign. How typically Christian of you.
Season’s greetings
This nonsense about saying “Happy Holidays” or “Merry Christmas” has gone too far. Has it ever occurred to anyone that “Happy Holidays” is just a combination of “Merry Christmas” and “Happy New Year” together. I love saying “Merry Christmas” and hearing it being said, but sometimes it is just easier to say “Happy Holidays” as it wraps it all into one. And as for the one person who said that they will be boycotting stores if it says Happy Holidays on the windows, well my business just got Happy Holidays on it a week ago and we don’t need you or your righteous attitude in our business.
Give it a try yourself
To the person who put in about the price of coffee. I am a restaurant owner and you are way off base here. First of all, it doesn’t cost 11 cents a cup for cream and sugar, it costs about 18 cents and then you have to pay for someone to deliver it to you, the cost of the cup itself, someone to wash that cup, for hydro and everything like that. So if you think that you are smarter than restaurant owners, you know what, I have one for sale, so get out your chequebook. I am asking about $1.1 million right now because that is what I have invested in it and I would like the return on my investment as well. So you can come and buy that from me and show us just how much smarter you are than us.
Death of a snowman
Most must admit in this season of dollars and rushing the Christmas spirit is at times hard to grasp. For a number of years I’ve built snowmen in the green space off First Street, perhaps it’s the kid in me. First snowfall and I want to share a snowman with the neighbourhood kids (my own kids are grown). I’ve had many positive comments about them from the kids and people driving on First Street, makes it worthwhile. This is a note to the individual(s) who took it upon themselves to knock down the snowman in the making and steal his winter attire. I won’t be building them again, obviously they offended you in some way. Your physical Sound Off has been heard.
Some great incentive
If some local construction company wants to help families get into homes, they might try what some of the companies did in Red Deer, Alta., a few years ago. They offered families the chance to work on their home for the down payment. For example, if you wanted to do the painting, they would pay what they would have to pay someone else to do it. If you were an electrician or plumber, the same. Doesn’t this sound like a great incentive for a company to promote and sell more houses?
