Still honest people out there

Many thanks to the lady who turned in my purse last Tuesday at Giant Tiger. It is so nice to know there are still honest people. Sorry I can't thank you in person.

Speed watchers are missed

Sure do miss the ladies who used to sit on Victoria Avenue doing speed watch all the time. It sure helped with the speeders and we have noticed a lot of speeders this year.

Washroom beefs

When you use a washroom, please stop when finished and turn around, and be sure you didn’t leave any mess behind, literally from your behind! It is so gross for the next user. We should be so thankful to have washrooms to use, please help keep them clean. If you find one that is a mess, let the establishment know right away so they can at least take care of it. Not a pleasant job, but it needs to be done.

Need to get down to the real questons

Why is no one in the media asking the real question as to why we now have only two processing plants (XL Foods and Cargill) processing all the beef in western Canada? Now the public would like to buy local? Where was the public and media outcry over the past decade when cattle being sold wouldn’t pay for the fuel to get them to market. In regards to preventing the E. coli 0157 infection in beef, all you need to do is just simply cook your beef properly and thoroughly, and also don’t forget to wash your vegetables (broccoli, lettuce, etc.) as they can and have had just as many problems with E. coli 0157. It's just common sense.

Hospital is a smoke-free area … ‘butt’ look what I see

Being a daily visitor at both Brandon hospitals for close to a year, I have reached the conclusion that nicotine causes the user to misunderstand the printed word, have twitchy fingers that sends a cigarette butt as far away as possible from themselves, and have their sense of sight and smell affected. The sidewalks, gutters, grass and parking lot are disgustingly peppered with butts. In some places it even appears that while a person waits in a vehicle, a good pastime is to empty their ashtray. Signs, in large print, state that the hospital area (including the parking lot as I understand) is a smoke-free area. When the winter snow melted in the spring, I was astounded at the number of butts on the ground as I walked from my car into the hospital. Once the dry weather arrived, I assumed that hospital maintenance would do some necessary cleanup. Never happened. Nothing seems to be done about enforcing the rule either. Come on, BRHC, clean up your grounds. Come on, people, put your butts in your pocket. Winter is approaching and people will, again, ignore the idle-free area of the cul-de-sac between hospitals. After all, one needs to be warm while having a smoke!

The more things change …

Wow! Talk about progress. The city has decided to enter into a four-day garbage pickup cycle. Also the pickup days will remain the same each week. I remember years ago this was part of the garbage pickup system. Seems perhaps the old proven methods were better than today’s methods.
