Being a business owner in Manitoba stinks
If you are thinking about opening up a business in Manitoba, think long and hard. Manitoba has the highest minimum wage in Canada. The PST jumped to eight per cent. There is now PST on most services when it used to be just on products. You cannot raise prices as people are paying more already for the PST. Don’t get me started on Brandon’s property and school taxes. And the employment standards and rights are 99 per cent in favour of the employee and unions. Last, but definitely not least, you have to try to employ a generation that wants days off on all weekends, music festivals, all holidays, and two weeks at Christmas.
Time for change … and a new city council
Makes me so sick to see all the money wasted on those Games, shame on all of you. We need to seriously look at all council and start making serious decisions soon as to who stays and who goes. Our city is in trouble with the mayor sitting on the front seat of council. I was thinking of running for council, but not going to because there is so much damage done, especially in the Green Acres area.
Schools should provide transportation
Why are there no school buses transporting students during school hours to home economics, soccer games etc.? After all, we do pay school taxes.
Residents aware of the risk
The people of Kingsway chose to rent their land and as such be subject to eviction at any time. I lived in a trailer for years. All of the paperwork you fill out and sign before paying your monthly lot rental (key word there: RENTAL) is very clear. You do not own your property. You can be evicted. It is a very inexpensive way to live while you save up for a permanent residence. That’s what I did. I don’t regret a moment of the trailer ownership. It was a convenient stepping stone to a permanent residence.
