Sound Off -- Oct. 19

Bins should be out front

As not all homes have back lanes, some garbage pickup is done on the front street. If the majority of driveways are on the front street, then perhaps the pickup should be done there instead. People have the use of their driveway to move their cans to the curb and will generally remove them when they return in the evening. This will assist in not having to have the back lanes as well as the front streets plowed simultaneously after large snowfalls. Most people generally do not have space in their backyard for garbage nor do they shovel snow as their priority unless the driveway is also present. This initiative was not as well thought out as presented by the city.

We will pay forward your generosity

To the gentleman who offered to share his table with my wife and myself on Oct. 11 at Robin’s Nest Restaurant in Carberry and then paid for our meal as he left — we thank you very, very much! There are still some very generous and kind people in this world. We will certainly pay it forward.

Garbage bins never hurt anyone

Instead of worrying about enforcing laws about garbage bins in back lanes why doesn’t the police concentrate on enforcing laws about people driving and texting, drunk drivers and speeding? Garbage bins in the back lanes never killed anybody — speeders and drunk drivers do!

Big thanks to all — you are life savers!

I, along with family and friends, would like to send a big thank you to the paramedics, driver, staff in emergency and everyone in ICU who with the good Lord’s help were able to bring back our brother, son, father, uncle, mate and friend after we had lost him three times. A thousand “thank yous” would not be enough to say how grateful we are for all your hard work. Thank you from everyone who knows the mystery miracle man (R.C.) in room 408. Also thank you for your great work with our other family member and friend (B.H.) in room 415. God bless you all!

Put them back the way you found them

Not only are people still not moving their garbage bins out of the back lane after they’re dumped, it is equally annoying how slap-dash a job the city does dumping them, leaving them fallen over or with the lids open to let in that rain we had this week.

What I learned driving in Brandon

So if you were learning how to drive by observing drivers in Brandon over the last two weeks you would have learned that: If you have your baseball cap on backwards, you are allowed to drive down Victoria eating a bowl of pasta; if you are a contractor driving a truck and talking on your cellphone, stop signs mean nothing to you; and, whenever driving near Waverly Park School, the vehicle which is both most valuable and largest always has the right of way.
