Get your life preservers ready
Manitoba cabinet shuffle: Well, there we have it, folks! The captain of this Titanic has decided to put in a brand new crew to try to steer this ship and avert the huge iceberg that lies dead head and about two years in the distance.
Another good deed done
Last Friday night, my elderly father lost his wallet at the Wheat Kings hockey game. Some very kind person handed it in with absolutely nothing taken out of it. Whoever you are we as a family are very grateful for your kindness.
Thanks for putting up with me
A huge thank you to the staff of the Brandon hospital (fourth floor) for their patience and cheerfulness when dealing with a very difficult patient. Your kindness was so very much appreciated! And I'll bet you are happy I went home! You guys are awesome!
Why should I care if you don’t?
The best way to fight poverty? Get a job, make some money! Now we have the Tories wanting to increase welfare rates? What is wrong with political parties these days? Why should our tax money go to pay for people who don’t care to even try to look after themselves?
Something’s got to give
So Wheat Kings sales are down for the last four years. Did you ever think that perhaps that might be in direct relationship to our huge increase in property and school taxes? Personally our property taxes have doubled in the last six or seven years. That money had to come from cutting somewhere! I also don’t donate to anyone coming to the door. PST increase, (another one per cent), tax on all insurance products, school tax, City of Brandon tax, no wage increase … something has to give and maybe we are finally taxed enough that the Wheat Kings suffer. Just think about it!
Put them back where they belong
I am from out of town, but I have noticed that in a lot of department store parking lots that people will empty their shopping carts and then just leave the carts there, blocking a parking spot. I just can’t understand why people won’t take these carts back to where they are supposed to go. I also see people walking past these abandoned shopping carts as they are heading into the store and don’t grab one and take it with them to the store.
A hire should be based on ability
I would be embarrassed to accept a job simply because I was a minority. I would prefer to have the job because I have talents, abilities, education, etc.
Sorry we couldn’t support your fundraiser
“Pink the Rink” breast cancer T-shirts on sale at the Wheat King games are in very poor taste! The “white bra” on the front of the pink T-shirt is offensive to many women. They were also offensive to mothers who saw the T-shirts placed in the children’s section of the Wheat King merchandise. Why not use the breast cancer ribbon instead of the “bra” to display your advertising?
Dying with dignity?
I was listening to a radio station on Friday morning and their poll was “dying with dignity.” I was surprised with some of the comments made. It gave me the impression that they were afraid of dying. One person said life is sweet. It is sweet as long as you’re healthy. I, myself, think no matter what religion or belief, the person being of sound mind should be able to make that decision. Remember we are taught that God forgives. I do hope the government realizes it is not what the beliefs are but what is best for the person that is suffering. My feelings are the government is afraid of losing votes and that should have no bearing on the decision.
