Wondering where all the street sweepers are?

The gutters are full of leaves and the catch basins are all plugged. Have they put the street sweepers away for the winter? In fact, I haven’t seen many all summer.

We like the bike rider displays

My family and I like the mini-bike display at Sixth Street and Park Avenue. This yard display has been there for years. The riders change with the holidays or seasons — for example, witches, Santas, Easter bunnies. Presently Taz and Garfield are on the mini-bikes. Our family enjoys this display and looks forward to seeing who the riders are. And folks, if you are looking to see it, it is not on the 600-block near the railway tracks, it is on the 900-block at the four-way stop.

We’re still here!

The Citizens on Patrol Program has trained at least 20 people to participate in our Speed Watch program. We have covered many more areas this year, tracking vehicles that speed. In 2011, we monitored 12,995 vehicles. This year to date, we have monitored 15,654 vehicles at 21 different locations. The Brandon Police Service has asked us to monitor First Street, Ninth Street, 13th Street, 26th Street, Richmond Avenue, Victoria Avenue, Aberdeen Avenue, Kirkcaldy Drive and Patricia Avenue to name a few. If we find any area with an excessive amount of speeders, Brandon Police Service will send a cruiser out with us to issue tickets as necessary. We are pleased the people of Brandon are taking notice of some of the areas that Citizens on Patrol is helping to make our community a better and safer place to live.

Your honesty is gratefully appreciated

This is to the anonymous person who found my daughter’s wallet last week and dropped it off at her high school. We are very pleased and very grateful. Thank you. There was no information left on who had done it, but we wish to thank them very much.

Manitoba should separate, too

I think Manitoba should use the same strategy as Quebec and threaten to separate from Canada and then we would get millions and millions of dollars of tax money every time we cried and whined about things just like Quebec does. They shouldn’t get any money since they took all the Canadian flags out of the provincial legislature.

What is the justice system coming to?

In regards to the article in Sept. 18 paper. A man is sentenced to two years for an incident of sexual overtures after entering a woman’s apartment. He was just released from jail for assault and other crimes, and he is known to have a violent past. Now the victim is sentenced to a life sentence and he gets two years? Shame on the judge.

Clarification on Habitat’s beginnings

In your article on Arnold Grambo in the Oct. 19 Brandon Sun, you said Arnold Grambo was involved in Habitat for Humanity from inception, but no he was not. There were four very good men who started the Habitat for Humanity in Brandon and Arnold came on the scene about a year later. I just wanted people to know the facts.
