A tale of two Henrys
I think Brandon University and the Workers Compensation Board should hang their heads in shame in regards to the treatment of Henry Lawrence. Sure, Henry Champ’s story was a feel good story, but Henry Lawrence’s story was awful, awful, awful! His pain and suffering should never be forgotten by all employees at Brandon University.
To blow or not to blow
More about the nose blowing in restaurants. I have to agree that it is gross. I have severe allergies and when I sneeze I sound like a gun going off, not just once or twice either! If my nose runs while I’m eating I use a tissue to stop the flow. Therefore people cannot hear the disgusting sound of my nose blowing. Classy? Yes, but also common sense!
Nice new digs, but where do we park?
The new Healthy Living Centre as pictured in the front page on Wednesday’s Brandon Sun looked great! But where is everyone going to park? Has the university ever thought about a parkade? This could compensate student, Healthy Living Centre and Westman Auditorium parking. Parking is only becoming worse at the university but this would be wonderful solution to solve the limited space problem and free up land from the current parking lots.
Giving them back their own money is not subsidizing
Some of our councillors need to think about what subsidizing someone means. When you are paying for a service (as in regards to garbage pickup being paid for by property taxes) and then the city decides to stop providing that service but is still going to charge you the same taxes — giving them some money back is not subsidizing them. That is their money they have paid for that service that they are getting back. Perhaps it would just be easier and clearer to lower their taxes if they now have to pay for private service. Why should they be paying for a service the city now doesn’t want to provide?
Do some investigating first
When looking for someone to help care for your elderly friend or family, please investigate. They will get in there and take over everything and then they have power-of-attorney and you can’t even go and visit. They’ve gone in and changed the house around etc. and who knows what they have taken or sold.
Be more alert while driving or walking!
I saw a driver in a red truck turn from Victoria Avenue into the wrong and opposite lane and almost cause an accident for the driver who was correctly turning right onto Victoria Avenue into the right-hand lane. Also, I had to honk my horn this morning to get a driver to stop at the crosswalk on 11th Street and Rosser Avenue or thereabouts so that the pedestrian crossing the street would not get hit by him. Let’s wake up and become much more alert and aware of our surroundings when we are driving within Brandon. Pedestrians, please do not assume that the vehicle in the other lane is going to stop. Often they do not. Everyone is in such a hurry these days and negligence on the road while driving is everywhere. Please let us all start driving much more responsibly and if we do notice infractions, please let’s get a plate number and report these to our local Brandon city police. Some of this nonsense needs to be addressed and stopped now.
Confinement is cruel
If you own a dog, take it for a walk! How would you like to be in the kennel all day and locked up all night? That is just cruel.
