Brandon Sun - PRINT EDITION

Sound Off -- Oct.22, 2012

What a great performance!

The Westman Youth Choir that performed Tuesday at Central United Church was simply outstanding. We absolutely loved all the singing. You performers should be very proud of yourselves.

It’s time to take the test

As a senior who has taken the initiative to have my driving skills assessed at the Seniors for Seniors driving clinics, I firmly believe that all persons over 70 need to be tested annually in order to renew their licences. An assessment by a physician or optometrist who doesn’t see them in action is not enough. Seniors could also test themselves. If they feel unable to safely drive at the speed limit in Brandon, in daylight or on dry roads, it is time to sell the vehicle.

I am watching you

I don’t know why the city keeps building these dog parks. I go past the newer one, on Braecrest Drive several times a day and have only seen six different dogs in the park. But I see a large number being walked along the pathway past it, leaving dumps all along the walkway, which are very seldom picked up. I’m going to start taking pictures, so be aware.

Call and you shall receive

This is to all those individuals who keep complaining through Sound Off regarding all kinds of bylaw infractions in the city. If you want anonymous action, contact the city police. I have and it works! When I asked why bylaw enforcement does not deal with these obvious infractions when they see them, I was told that enforcement is basically complaint-driven. Problem solved.

More honest people

I just noticed the comment about, “Still Honest People Out There” and just wanted to add that I had left my purse in the cart at the Co-op and thank goodness some honest person out there turned it in for me. There is really no other way to thank them.

Supporting the Strand

To the person who complained about the plywood wall down at the former Brown Block, the plywood wall was put up at considerable expense by the property owner. It wasn’t put up for appearance or any other reason. It was put up to hold the Strand building up because without that wall, the Strand building is going to fall down. Perhaps people should think before they speak.

Move them out

Let’s just move the trains out of the city. We don’t really use them anyway. Put them five miles south and five miles north. They are a real pain in town. At times, the wait may be death.
