Hurry up already!
I am in agreement with the person who was complaining about the construction on Van Horne Avenue East near Douglas Street. I live down there and they do not even come on a daily basis to work on the road. They started it in mid-August and it is soon going to snow out. It has been an inconvenience to those who live on the 600- and 700-block of Percy Street and those who have to use that road for a compute to work. And to think of the hard-earned tax dollars that are going to pay for this. It is pathetic that this is taking so long to get finished.
Hey mister, you hit my dog
Thank you to the stellar person who just hit my dog recently and didn’t even bother to stop. We are in a rural area and we walk to get the paper and he just hit my dog. I couldn’t believe it. I hope the same thing happens to him.
Don’t blame the pig farmers
Please don’t just point the finger at the hog farmers because of the mess that is going on right now. We had decided to use corn, which should be used as a food, as a source of ethanol. Now we have the fuel companies using land which should be making food. Crop shortages all the way around. Prices go up. And the hog farmers can not afford feed. And they had nothing to do with making ethanol mandatory in vehicles.
Safety first, Drew!
It was nice to see a photo of Drew Caldwell working (painting the historic Trade Fair Building), but it seems he was not wearing his safety harness that all others working on a scissorlift are required to wear.
Will downtown Brandon come tumbling down?
With all the additional costs we are now faced with demolishing the Brandon Inn, it would appear that the taxpayers are sitting on a ticking time bomb. I would imagine there are many hazardous materials in all the old buildings downtown that will eventually fall down. The old Strand Theatre probably has many of the same materials as the Brandon Inn. Strange though that this was not a problem with the Brown Block.
Shedding light on the massive craters
On Page A5 of the Tuesday, Oct. 16 Brandon Sun, a Keystone Centre employee is shown high in the air in a scissor-lift changing a bulb in a light standard. I am just wondering if he can see the large craters in the entrance of the parking lot? I wonder if repairing them could be his next job?
Rules don’t apply?
In the Tuesday, Oct. 16 Brandon Sun, MLA Drew Caldwell made the statement “I am gingerly walking 40 feet above the ground, but we are all strapped in” while painting the crest on the Trade Fair Building. However, the picture says different as he is not securely strapped into the scaffolding. Occupational Health and Safety would have suspended contractors for committing the same act without wearing a safety lanyard. Why should the rules be different for someone in power?
Picking up after you all
I just finished walking the new Hanbury Hill bike trail. I filled seven large garbage bags with mostly plastic bottles and snack wrappers. It shows how quickly the litter can add up. Better luck next summer!
