City keeps its woody word
@03.2 Sound Off Body Copy:When the city had to remove a series of trees from along downtown streets last spring there was an outcry. But it had to be done due to disease. The city at the time said it would replace the trees and I see they have started to do just that this week. A job well done and a promise indeed kept.
Keep up the good work
I don’t really have a Sound Off, but I have something good to say. I think that Jillian Austin is doing a fabulous job at the Brandon Sun. I think you guys are all doing a wonderful job. There is too much negative stuff out there and I think you are just doing a wonderful job. From a guy out in the southwestern Manitoba area.
Pack up the pink, you look silly
I’m sure that I’m not alone in tiring of seeing our professional athletes in the CFL and even the NFL of wearing pink equipment. Folks, this display is not going to cure cancer! It only makes them look unprofessional and silly. Enough of the pink on these men who are role models, it’s time for another gimmick cause this one has definitely run its course and has become redundant and a distraction.
A pat on the back for the mayor
Regarding the column, “Reflecting On Time In Mayor’s Chair” from Oct. 20 Brandon Sun. How the time has flown past. Yet, despite all the challenges and trials, Shari Decter Hirst has put together a fine presentation of her and council’s mid-term abbreviated accomplishments and anticipated goals for the future and the city of Brandon. A gentle ‘pat on the back’ and a bouquet for her dedication and determination in some very trying times (especially the flooding of Brandon). A true leader, with remarkable talents.
Who’s stopping you?
In her monthly column in the Sun, the mayor said that she has been “handcuffed from moving as aggressively as (she) would have liked on initiatives to revitalize downtown.” What are these handcuffs, and who did the handcuffing? City council gives her everything she wants.
Judges gone crazy
I don’t know what you have to be arrested for these days in order to be “remanded in custody.” Some of those charged in very major drug busts and for robberies with violence, get released on bail.
Get your pooches under control
Very happy to see a small dog section in the new dog park at The Hanbury Hill Pooch Park. On occasion we have taken our small dogs to the dog park on Park Avenue and they have literally been attacked by very large aggressive dogs to the point where we have had to leave. These large dogs are under very little supervision as their owners sit on the benches and visit, paying no attention to what their dogs are doing. To any dog owner who visits these dog parks, please pay attention to your pet. You are still responsible for their actions and if you can’t control your aggressive pet then perhaps you should not take them to an area with other dogs!
