Driving conditions were bad all around
I am quite offended that the Department of Highways thinks we will believe that the only two trouble spots Monday were First Street on North Hill and the Riverside Valley on Highway 10. Highways 18 and 10 both had very icy patches in all sheltered areas and Highway 2 was a continuous sheet of ice between the junctions of No. 10 and 18. Shame on them for not considering that wet snow would not turn to ice and freeze — this is Manitoba, after all!
Thanks for putting my life in danger
I don’t care whose responsibility clearing and sanding the roads in Brandon it is — city or provincial — but driving down Victoria Avenue on Monday morning was the most terrifying winter driving I have done in a long time. There is no reason trucks could not have been out earlier to sand and save hundreds of people from the stress of that terrifying drive.
Make needed cuts from the top
It is appalling to hear that a moronic decision was made to eliminate a service as essential as having highways safe for morning rush-hour traffic. What is worse is the idiots who made this decision will be the in the $100,000-plus salary range. Time to start spending the money where it will do some good, make the cuts where it will have a positive not a negative impact. A good start would be with the levels of management who seriously thought this was a good idea.
Say goodbye to low rates
Road repair is a bottomless pit, and this is just another way for this government to tax Manitobans? Now they talk about having the lowest “bundle” of crown corp services? So say goodbye to lowest hydro and lowest auto insurance as they will rely on plummeting natural gas prices to bring the average costs down.
Can someone please explain it?
Lotto Max, same prize amounts this week as last. I believe there should be at least 60 $1-million draws. Where does all the millions from this week’s sales go? Also how are the numbers picked and by whom? Are the lotteries ever audited and the audits made public? If not, why not? Where does all the money from sales go other than the prizes? Sorry for being suspicious, but nothing makes sense.
It is still Canadian oil
I firmly believe that if foreign companies are going to buy Canadian-owned oil companies, part of the agreement should be that they have to build and operate oil refineries here in Canada.
School division needs to take more action against bullies
Elected and hired people in our education system are turning a blind eye. Too much said and not enough done about bullying in schools. Educators/school divisions are saying they are trying to come up with solutions to deal with this issue. Huh? Are you not the authorities here? What happened to the discipline in our schools? Where are the principals who are not afraid to take a stand and say enough is enough? This is not a virus, for goodness sakes! When a child is being tormented by others, teachers look the other way. This child is begging for your help! How about stopping abuse in its tracks and applying some much-needed discipline? Those of you in authority are failing our kids.
