I am saddened by these “Nine” that are backstabbing us (Saturday, Sept. 7)! We did nothing to deserve this. They are just proving to us (and to the world) that they have a serious, unsolved, unsettled, missing piece in their hearts and minds!
Back home where I belong
I, too, left the Hutterite colony in my teens, but it was the love of my people and my culture that made me want to return after six years. I did not turn bitter against the very people who taught me to work hard, make wise choices and keep the 12 commandments. This only helped me in the life I had chosen — to be on my own, to support myself. I am now happy and content in raising my family 18 years later. I feel safe, yes! Protected, yes! Loved, yes! I am free to make my own choices for me and my family. No culture, no family, no religion, no place on Earth exists without problems! But it is the cloudy days that make us appreciate the sunny days!
WestJet flight all positive for us
Thanks to everyone who helped bring WestJet to Brandon. Our daughter and family live in Calgary and we will not miss the three-hour trip to and from Regina. I am sorry that the press had to add a negative spin to the story and criticize those who went on the inaugural flight while questioning the cost. The positive aspects far outweigh these costs and should be the priority.
Pool problems still exist
A major limitation of the old Y was that at most, four people at a time could swim laps, and only when the entire pool was available. With the new Y, the situation is much the same. I don’t see how this pool was built for future needs, never mind the present.
And now on a more positive note
Parkview Seniors Housing Co-op has just celebrated 25 years with a very elegant and inspiring event. Some 27 years ago, an unused part of a personal care home was to be demolished. Some members of the community led by Seniors fo Seniors Co-op decided it could be reinvented as affordable housing for seniors. It was, and for 25 years has provided member-owned and managed safe, supportive senior housing in Brandon. Congratulations.
