What’s the deal with the Canupawakpa powwow?
It’s funny how they can find money for a $100,000-plus event and yet can’t even manage their own affairs. Will they accept federal dollars to sponsor this event? We know that there is cultural monies available to help the bands, but will Canupawakpa accept it considering their battle with the federal government? Usual hypocritical leaders, saying one thing while doing another. I wish they put this much effort into fixing their houses and getting out of co-management!
Trashing the back lanes
I’m so tired of people in our neighbourhood who leave a nasty mess in our back lane when they dump their trash in the bins. So often people don’t put their refuse in a bag and too much of it just lands beside the bin — or worse — scattered in our backyard. Show a little respect for other people’s property, please. Can’t wait to see the back lanes cleaned up next month when the new bylaw kicks in. Hopefully it will help keep other people’s trash off our lawn.
Take a tissue with you
Regarding spitting. Are you so ignorant that you don’t realize the germs you are spreading, let alone the ugly mess you leave behind for someone to walk in? Cats and dogs walk through it, too, and track it everywhere. Yuck! Think, take your own Kleenex, or whatever, spit or honk into it and throw it in the nearest garbage can. Amazing what a few manners can do to make the world a better place to live in.
Need more like him
I’m responding to a comment about the altar boy in the Catholic church. Just because this young lad wants to be an altar boy does not make him a member of some sect that believes in coercing young people into doing things they don’t want to do. This is a Catholic church, well-established and well-organized and serves the public who wish to attend. I dare say this young lad will never set fires to other people’s homes or break into businesses and steal. He has been taught to respect other people’s property and has been taught right from wrong. If more young people were like him there would be less crime and destruction of property. Hats off to this young upstanding lad. P.S. I am a member of the United Church of Canada and not connected to the Catholic church. I attend church as often as able every Sunday and go willingly. Our children attended Sunday school and learned values which have carried over to adult life. Their children also have been exposed to church life and so far have had no run-ins with the law. I am very proud of them and tell them that whenever I see them. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is the Golden Rule!
Held up in train traffic
This morning (Wednesday) on my way to work, there happened to be a train at the First Street crossing. Traffic was already backed up by the time I got into it and I was sitting at the corner of Park Avenue East and First Street, near the Mac’s store. It was 7:46 a.m. when I joined the lineup and it was 8:10 a.m. when the traffic started to inch it way on. That was 24 minutes! Are you kidding me? What is the railway thinking having a train at that length halting traffic on a very busy street when people are trying to get to work on time? As it was I was 20 minutes late for work — unacceptable! P.S. Leaving five minutes earlier wouldn’t have made a difference — I would have only been further up the line of traffic.
Please have mercy
I am wishing that we, the spouses/partners of NHL fans, would be able to plead our case as it is going to be one very long winter without NHL. Please come to an agreement as I am not looking forward to this winter with my upset fan in the household. Thankful for the Wheat Kings, maybe they can play live on TV every other night. I guess we will resort to the radio or make lots of snow angels. Am I the only one?
