Sound Off -- Sept. 25, 2012

Old McLaren School would work

Regarding the editorial in the Sept. 21 paper about being in urgent need of a new school. What is wrong with McLaren School on the 1000-block of Sixth Street? The teacher’s club could be relocated. This facility would solve a cost situation and it looks to be in good condition and is near the south end of the city.

Just a different name

The Renaissance Brandon committee is just another name for the BIA only with more tax dollars.

Here’s to the ladies on the bench

A big bouquet to our two female judges for the superb job they do on the bench. These two ladies do not mince their words and they handle justice as it should be handled. Perhaps it’s time we got rid of some of our wishy-washy male judges and replaced them with more female judges. They certainly know how to deal with the criminal element. Thanks, ladies, and keep up the good work.

Thank the right people

Several new businesses in downtown Brandon thanked Renaissance Brandon for giving them funding to get their businesses operational. Nice to thank them but where do you think Renaissance Brandon gets their funds from … the City of Brandon. And where do you think they get their funds from … us the taxpayer. Therefore, you should be thanking the citizens of Brandon for helping your new businesses get started.

Affordable housing?

For the last 30 years, we have lived in a 850-square-foot bi-level with no garage. A family of four. I consider that affordable housing. Today, every house has a garage built with it. Why can’t contractors just build the basic small house, no garage and no finished basement? That is affordable housing!

Send them packing

If the courts would start giving these known wannabe gang members “pen time” instead of provincial time, then the courts could send them anywhere in Canada and we could get rid of these yahoos or just bring in the skin heads. They have boots … “made for walking all over you.”

Rude behaviour takes a toll

In response to “If You Can’t Work Up A Smile” Sound Off from Sept. 20. It’s my experience from being in the service industry for 10 years that our job isn’t “too much for us,” but it’s because of dealing with rude, demanding customers every day that takes a toll! People come in always in a rush, expect you to drop everything to serve them, even when you are already helping someone else, when you don’t oblige them, they think it’s OK to be abusive! I have seen co-workers hit, yelled at, things thrown at them and so on! The Christmas season is coming up and the abuse gets worse every year!
