Let’s get it right the second time
I totally agree with Monday’s Sound Off, that Mr. Maguire should remove his name from the nomination process so the Conservative party can redo the whole thing, start over again and make it fair for everyone. Let’s show some integrity and common decency.
Cutting up my membership card
It is time for new blood and fresh new ideas in the Conservative party. Not a veteran politician nearing the sunset of his career. Sure, he’s a very comfortable choice for the party, certainly, but I have requested assistance in matters from Mr. Maguire the MLA that didn’t even receive a response. So if these are the values the party now has, I am cutting up my membership card and will select another candidate and party to support. I wonder if Larry Maguire will really enjoy his time in Ottawa knowing how he got there.
A national embarrassment — again!
The Wheat City is again making headlines across the country for one of our elections. A few years ago, it was because of the criminal records or brushes with the law some of the candidates had. Now we have allegations of misdeeds at the Conservative headquarters and some big-name Tories stating they will not support the party’s remaining (hand-picked?) candidate Larry Maguire in the pending Brandon-Souris byelection. Another mad Conservative — Killarney-Turtle Mountain Mayor Rick Pauls — says he’s going to quit the Tories and be an independent candidate in the byelection. Brandon’s former mayor and longtime Tory politician Rick Borotsik is pictured on the front page of the Brandon Sun arm-in-arm with Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau. What the heck is going on?
Put Sea Kings to rest
No doubt about it, Sikorsky made a fine, but not everlasting helicopter and this Ole Sea King bird was due for retirement about 20 years ago. (National Viewpoint, Brandon Sun, Sept. 24.) I had my introduction to both Sikorsky and Piasecki, as far back as 1954, as a flight technician (crewman) with the RCAF, with the building of Canada’s Mid Radar Line. But let’s face it, enough is enough. Fifty years of celebrating the Sea King’s service and longevity is primarily the result of technicians who have dedicated vast hours of maintenance and care in an attempt to keep a search and rescue commitment viable. Grandchildren are maintaining and flying the same machines their grandfathers did!
Get a colonoscopy
I’m warning people to get a colonoscopy. I would encourage people close to 50 to get a colonoscopy. It doesn’t take very long. Your loved ones will want you to stick around.
