Where are your manners?

To the snooty Brookwood person on 34th Street who doesn’t want condominiums in your area — didn’t your mother teach you any good manners and respect for other human beings? There is nothing wrong with people living in condos. They are kind, decent people and at least they have manners.

Condo isn’t a four-letter word

Why do people think “condo” is a bad word? Just some bad communications work by the developer here, folks. Some condos can be pretty swanky. Now if it does mean “affordable housing,” then head for the hills. That stupid idea of mixing high- and low-income people just doesn’t work.

Family pet dead on Park Avenue East

Last Monday evening between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., a motorist struck and killed a grey cat and left it in the middle of the road (Park Avenue and Russell Street). We came home in our vehicle, got a garbage bag and walked down there and picked up this pet. We couldn’t believe that someone could hit this cat, just drive away and leave it. Park Avenue East is wide and there should be no reason. The cat should not have been there, but that still should not have happened. We would like the owners to know that we are going to bury it and it isn’t just being left on the street.

Keep the city safe with a curfew

Brandon should have a city-wide 11 p.m. curfew for persons under the age of 17.

We need an energy monitoring agency

The five-cent difference in gasoline between Virden and Brandon depends on whether you talk to our provincial government or the oil companies. They can come up with numerous reasons, such as costs of labour, transportation, price of oil, etc. The real reason, as I see it, is that oil companies want the extra profits and now that the NDP supports businesses, it isn’t supporting workers as much because it’s the businesses that have the money to support them. So they won’t set up an energy monitoring agency, like some eastern provinces, that monitor and allow or deny price increases, or lowering of prices.

Parking at BU

If you can afford to drive a car, you can afford to pay $280 for parking. A homeowner who pays $2,000 a year in property taxes obviously has priority to the two-hour parking in front of their house.

Superhero in Souris

While returning from a holiday weekend last Monday, we had a rear tire blow out on Highway 270. While we worked to retrieve the spare, a truck stopped and a kind young man jumped out and offered his assistance. For us, a senior couple, his speed and agility was such a godsend, and we’d like to repeat here how much we appreciated him taking time from his busy holiday schedule to help us on our way. Thank you, our hero from Souris!
