Born with a button
Looking at the picture of Michelangelo’s fresco depicting “The Creation of Adam,” I noticed that Adam has a belly button. Don’t you need to be “born of a woman” to get one of those?
No incentive to leave
Apparently inmates are provided video games and other luxuries in our jails, no wonder some prefer not to even leave after their time. Not like in some other countries where the jail population is low, as the inmates must even be provided food by family. No wonder our jails are overpopulated, inmates are treated better than some of our citizens.
Slow us down
Other cities, including Winnipeg, are discussing lowering residential speed limits to 40 km/h and apparently some have already. Medical opinions that injuries resulting from accidents at 40 km/h are much less severe than from accidents at 50 km/h are worth taking note of. Brandon city authorities should act on this, in the interest of safety, especially for children.
How soon we forget
On the possibility of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation setting up in our city, damn near time. To say that the chamber of commerce is the watchdog is ludicrous. All the opposition to that last proposed budget came mainly from the citizens. Do you not remember the fight?
NHL needs to deal with the real issue
The NHL owners and Gary Bettman need to realize that no amount of money saved from the players will turn NHL money-losing franchises into winners. Bettman’s and other NHL owners’ refusal to move teams like Phoenix into legitimate hockey markets is a decision of their own making and is the real issue that needs to be resolved. Both sides are equally guilty in not making this the central issue in this dispute.
If you were in an emergency you would be ‘bellyaching,’ too
Regarding the Letter to the Editor about the “bellyaching” about train traffic. I live in Brandon because I like Brandon and the fact that you can almost always get anywhere within the city in 15 minutes. I cannot leave home any earlier than I do due to the connections I must make and their hours of business. To call it “bellyaching” is a bit extreme — it was only a circumstance that I was unhappy about and Sound Off is a place where you can do just that — sound off. Would it be “trivial” if someone in that traffic was on their way to the hospital, possibly in an emergency situation — if it was you or your loved one, you wouldn’t find it so “trivial” (or at least I hope not). So before you condemn someone for their opinion, I would suggest finding out all the facts.
