Let’s see their faces
Talking about sending gang members and wannabe members to the “pen,” is just what we need, in addition to putting their pictures in the newspaper. Then let them try to live in Brandon.
Is Brandon democratically run?
I have always been under the impression that our mayor and council were elected by the Brandon citizens to “operate” our city economically, efficiently and at the wishes of the citizens of Brandon, not to simply implement their wishes. If they feel the city needs or wants more liquor outlets, a casino or a brew pub — and there are many that are against such plans — it should be put to a vote at the next municipal election. At present, I hear a large number of people against all three, I also hear some that are for one or another. There should be a citizen vote on all three, not as a group, but individually. Our mayor and council are not all almighty.
Remember when …
Remember when the Lord’s Day Act was enforced? Remember when businesses closed their doors at 6 p.m. (with possibly the exception of Friday or Saturday nights)? Remember when we enjoyed a “half-day” closing each week? Remember when Sunday was a family day? Remember when families were actually able to eat meals together? Remember?
Laws are tough enough
Do we need tougher drinking and driving laws? It seems like the present laws are pretty tough for most of us. Going out at night and having fun are two mutually exclusive concepts, unless you have a designated driver. Thus, we will soon have a nation of stay-at-home alcoholics.
Cosmetic ban
A ban on cosmetic “pesticides” is imminent. The reasons for the ban are also quite cosmetic.
Fleming School is a done deal
Take note: The old Fleming School is no longer viable as a school for the BSD and hasn’t been an option for quite some time. So get over it! It was sold to Sioux Valley and what they use it for is their business. Enough already! Done deal!
Blatant hate propaganda!
Re: “Send Them Packing,” Sept. 25 Sound Off. I am appalled that you would actually print this type of hate propaganda! Why don’t you (whoever chose to print it) and/or the writer of that particular submission just come out and say a chapter of the KKK be established in the City of Brandon? Do you even know how these “wannabe gang members” operate? All they would need to do is make a couple of phone calls and the city would be overrun with actual gang members. Someone needs to give their head a shake and realize that promoting hate crimes is immoral and illegal.
Disturbed by photo
Regarding the picture in Sept. 25 paper about the dead cow. Did we have to have a photo of this? We all knew that the poor beast was on the loose and he was just out on a romp. So having to see the dead cow — I didn’t think that was appropriate. There are a lot of other happier things to see.
Cow or bull?
Brandon Sun of Sept. 25 shows a picture of a shot animal and says it is a cow and on page five it is refered to as a bull. The two terms are not interchangeable. A male is a bull. A female is a cow or a neutered male is a steer. So what was shot and why couldn’t the animal control tranquilize it or better yet lasso it?
Always watch for pedestrians
I was just reading the paper of Sept. 25 about the pedestrian who was hit on Rosser Avenue. I find it very surprising that no charges are being contemplated in this matter. When I was learning how to drive, I was always taught that you use care and caution when you are turning corners and when you are driving you watch out for pedestrians. As far as I am concerned this is driving with undue care.
