Sound Off -- September 29, 2012

Cheap housing or cheap seniors?

I noticed the buildings going up on McDiarmid Drive for seniors and I have got to wonder sometimes if we are providing cheap housing for seniors or housing for cheap seniors. I would be interested to know.

Henry was the champ

There are many contenders in the world of journalism, but Henry Champ was the champ.

Just let judges ban them from the city

In regards to the Sound Off on Sept. 25, “Send Them Packing.” Unfortunately the judges don’t have the authority for penitentiary placement, that is up to the corrections. So saying this judge or that judge can send them wherever is wrong. However, the judges do have the power to start banning these little punks from Brandon. They have done it before with other people. I think it is time to start using that clause.

Minimum pricing laws — who needs them

When is our provincial government going to do away with minimum pricing laws? Did you know that dairy products can’t be sold in a store under a certain price. Minimum pricing laws involve a lot more than just milk. But our provincial government seems to want to punish families with children, so they have minimum pricing laws. What kind of government have we got?

Being short-staffed part of the problem

Regarding the Sound Off, “Rude Behaviour Takes A Toll.” Don’t blame most of the customers, try blaming your employer for not hiring enough staff. I know some customers are just born rude, their parents were rude as well. But blame the boss.

Noise keeps me away

I’m 100 per cent in agreement with the person who commented on the music noise at the arena when the puck is not in play. It is nothing short of atrocious. I refuse to go to games because of it.

Not a good deal

In regards to the Nexen sale to China. I should think that our politicians in Ottawa had better think hard about giving China all our wealth and part of our country here. Remember, this is a communist country. The Canadian government should think about building refineries in our own country and then exporting finished products rather than shipping oil to China and then buying it back for what price. And you know it is quite interesting to know that these shareholders that they are talking about, how many of these shareholders are Canadian — I should think that a lot ot them are probably from other countries and of course, you know, they naturally want to make a few bucks at the Canadian expense.

People are the worst

As someone who had worked in the customer service industry for more than 44 years, I am responding to the Sound Off in the Sept. 20 paper. It isn’t the job that is “too much effort” — it is dealing with people. Did you know there is nothing worse than people. They show the worker very little respect; they always want something for free and when that doesn’t work out they snarl and blame the person behind the desk, till or wherever. People are not easy to deal with and I have often felt at the end of the day that I am really ashamed to admit to being one. Maybe before you get on your high horse, you should try the job out and see how long, during an eight-hour day, you keep your smile in place. Sure the public keeps businesses afloat, but that doesn’t give them a ticket to be rude and ignorant to the staff of these businesses.

What is wrong with people?

I get so peeved with people. They want their garbage picked up right at the front door? I am 76 years of age and I have no problem taking my garbage bins to the back. I have a garage and I keep them beside the garage. The way they have it I think it is a very good system — except for some lazy people who can’t be bothered.

Your pollution is illegal

If you are as sick of smelling diesel exhaust fumes as I am and see a three-quarter or one-ton truck, jacked-up, take off from a light or a stop sign and there is a black cloud of smoke, please call city police and report their licence plate number. Their emission system has been altered or chipped and it is illegal to tamper with emissions systems.
