Sound Off -- September 7, 2012

Thanks for the heads up

Thanks to the writer for the heads up about our new EPP payments. After reading that, I checked my Hydro bill and like the writer, I ended the year with a credit yet my new instalment payment is increasing by 24.4 per cent. What’s up with that?

I say bring it on

I think Brookwood is the perfect place for condos, but just get used to the dirt, garbage and noise. I have lived on Patricia Avenue for 25 years and have had to put up with continual construction for the last three years in our area. Why should Brookwood be exempt from further development?

Thanks for a great start to the school year

Wow! I just have to say thank you to J.R. Reid office staff and the classroom teachers! We are so grateful for the warm welcome we received! We walked out the doors today knowing that our children were in good hands.

Road blocks

Regarding 34th Street: Thanks so much for the crews surfacing 34th Street on the first day of school! You had all summer to do this, then you decide to do it on the first school day, making getting to Kirkcaldy School a fun time!

Here’s my two cents

Why can’t the city flowers on the centre boulevards be watered on a night shift instead of causing a traffic snarl during busy times? Managers within the city organization appear to be unable to organize a one-float parade, let alone figure ways to improve our city. An even better solution — get rid of the centre boulevards like Minot and turn this wasted space into another traffic lane to improve Brandon’s horrific traffic flow. Need any other ideas, guys, or can you take the ball and run with it now?

Too many cooks

Another developmental plan costing us over $115,000? Why does the city hire developers, engineers, planners etc. if they still need outside professionals?

Enough already

Did we pay for all the pictures and plaques that saturate our city with the MLA from Brandon East?

More expensive in Virden

Regarding Sound Off on Sept. 4. Gas is not the only thing higher in Virden than Brandon. Check out our taxes!

Welcome and thanks for coming back

A very warm welcome back to BU students, and a particularly heartfelt thank you to those who dropped out because of the strike and have decided to give Brandon another chance. As a local business owner, I know how valuable you are to our community. We will never know the full cost of BUFA’s actions last year, but many businesses had to lay off staff or reduce their hours. Some even closed. Why write this in Sound Off? Simple really, business owners that stood with the parents during the strike saw BUFA members boycotting their businesses and I do not want to put my staff at risk (and a lot of them are the very students that BUFA said they care about). So welcome back, students — you are an important part of this community.

Don’t think Jack would approve

How can a funeral possibly cost $368,000? I am sure Jack Layton is spinning in his grave.
