What makes firefighters so much more deserving?

I’d like to know why the firefighters think they are worth more than the other City of Brandon employees as far as pay increases. They say they put their lives on the line every day. How many fires did they fight last year? Five, 10, 20? Let them try working in a big city where they might get called out every week or more. They are being paid the wages that the big city workers are getting. What about our water and sanitation workers who have to work with outdated plants and are only getting a 6.5 per cent total increase over the next three years?

Set up a weight-and-height scale at Kemnay

A viable solution to the truck versus bridge issue may be simple but, I guess it depends on whether the highways department has, or would consider, stopping truck traffic as they do at weigh scales. I think it would be fair to say that the majority, if not all, of the incidents of over-height loads colliding with the Kemnay bridge occur in the westbound lane. It’s common knowledge that when truckers are aware of scale locations, they will avoid the scales by taking alternate routes. If this fails, by setting up an unmanned scale immediately to the east of the Kemnay bridge calling for all trucks to report, this would force them to stop and not only observe their weight, but more importantly to observe their height, obviously being disregarded by some from time to time. Drivers of over-height loads would be warned at a standstill, and be directed by a reader board to take the next exit. Monitoring of the sideout could then allow authorities to prosecute to the full extent of the law, if the driver failed to stop or adhere to the order.

Apparently mom was not always right

My dearly departed mother had a favourite saying that we heard a lot of times growing up, “Greedy, greedy never gets.” I guess Mom was wrong! Although our professional men and women earn a very generous salary, they demand more and some of them have received more. My taxpayer back is broken!

Please stop these annoying calls ... and you might get my vote!

I am on a “do not call list” and yet on March 28, I got a phone call at 7:34 a.m. from 1-716-358-1043 saying that I had won a free trip. It just scared me out or my wits because I thought with a call that early in the morning something might have happened to one of my family members who is travelling. Please, Mr. Maguire, if you could get these calls stopped I would even vote for you and I have never voted Conservative before.
