Guess it didn’t work
City claims to pay the big wages to managers to attract better people into the positions. That doesn’t seem to be working all that well. It would be interesting to know how many levels of these overpaid managers it took to approve lane blockages during rush hour for flower weeding and watering on 18th Street, making an already bad situation worse. Although I suppose the lesser paid managers may have been so incompetent they would have blocked both lanes.
Wake up, citizens of Canada!
I was listening to Charles Adler on CJOB on Friday. Vancouver city council has adopted a bylaw that all new homes and renovations must not use doorknobs any longer. Vancouver city council has dictated to its residents what doorknobs they are now being allowed to use. What is alarming is that this bill passed! Halifax city council is meeting in the near future to discuss implementing this same policy within their city. This is absolutely incredulous! The state is now dictating to private property owners and citizens what they can and cannot use within the privacy of their own personal domains? The guest speaker noted that light bulbs were once produced by union workers but suddenly the powers that be mandated that all light bulbs we use be those spiral ones. The speaker noted that these are made in China and you almost need a Hazmat team in your home when one of these breaks. What is extremely alarming is how the state is interfering in the private lives of ordinary citizens now. Do the powers that be have shares in these companies that they are now promoting? We need to wake up and pay close attention to what is being forced upon us by our local, provincial and federal governments. Why are citizens allowing them to dictate to us what we can and cannot use within the privacy of our own homes? Could this ever occur in Brandon? What’s next? We’d better start standing up for our rights before we lose many more of them.
Was there a booze sale?
I was speaking to a downtown business owner on a recent weekend and they observed that they have never seen so many drunk individuals walking around downtown as they have this year. What’s going on within Brandon?
Why not charge them all?
If the guy who shot the spray plane is charged with attempted murder, we should be able to charge spray plane owners, their pilots and chemical companies with the same.
Someone is missing the point about firefighters’ salary!
What does it matter that the men and women can do both jobs, firefighting and paramedic? The fact remains that these people are extremely well-paid public employees that taxpayers cannot stand any more increase in their wage! If not for the tons of businesses we have in Brandon, the tax bill every year would be enormous! In no way, when determining wages for publicly paid employees, should there ever be comparisons with other cities whose citizens enjoy a better standard of living and also have work that pays more than the jobs we have to live with here! Except for three levels of government (taxpayer-funded) jobs, there are very few good-paying positions to be found in this city! Firefighters, police and management positions of this city have it made! One wonders how the “brains” at city hall could let this happen!
