Buzzing bloodsuckers back

We live in the southwest end of Brandon and are already being bombarded by mosquitoes. Within five minutes of being outdoors, we are covered with the hungry bloodsuckers. Instead of enjoying our short summer, we are being forced back indoors. Mosquito bites are becoming more serious, causing sickness, swelling, heartworm in our pets and causing serious issues with livestock and wildlife. I react badly to their bites and have already made one visit to the doctor’s office requiring meds. I realize some people strongly oppose spraying, but many of us require spraying for these disease carriers to protect our health. It’s no longer just a matter of mosquitoes being a nuisance, it’s becoming a serious health issue.

Why do some do it right?

If the majority of hog farmers are complying with the proper manure treatment regimen, why can’t new farmers do so as well and then there would be no shortage of hogs?

Canada Day should always be a long weekend

Wondering how many people would like to see the Canada Day changed to the first Monday of July. Victoria Day, which is in May, no longer falls on May 24, which is the Queen’s birthday — which is what we are celebrating. Even though the four original provinces joined Confederation on July 1, 1867, the other provinces didn’t all join on July 1, so why not make it a long weekend and then we could celebrate it better, too? If it was a Monday, then we could have the fireworks on Sunday night at midnight and you wouldn’t have to go to work the next day. Just a thought!

Can’t take four more years

To the person wondering if people attended public forums about the tax increase, yes, there was a good crowd at city hall and we were quite vocal in our opinion that there should be zero increase. Despite this fact, taxes were raised anyway, because as the mayor stated at the end of the meeting “we need the money from somewhere.” This bleeding of taxpayers will not stop until we get rid of the lefties at Brandon City Hall.
