Speaking of interesting poll results, the Brandon Sun had its own little byelection poll up on our website yesterday, asking this question: “If the Brandon-Souris byelection were held today, who would you vote for?”
The choices were, of course, Rolf Dinsdale (Liberal), Larry Maguire (Conservative), David Neufeld (Green) and Cory Szczepanski (NDP).
As of 2:30 p.m., Dinsdale held a hefty lead on our poll over Larry Maguire, with Dinsdale reaching nearly 70 per cent of the vote total at one point.
But things took a dramatic turn shortly after, when an email began circulating after 2 p.m. to Conservative party members with the subject line: “Help Us Win.”
Here’s the text of the email, which the Sun obtained yesterday afternoon:
“If you have 4 seconds, please visit www.brandonsun.com and vote for our candidate, Larry Maguire, in the poll near the bottom right of the page. He is currently trailing in this poll, on the heels of the recent Forum Research poll putting the Liberals ahead by 5 points.”
As of 3:23 p.m., the results shifted, with Maguire reaching 63 per cent and Dinsdale with 30 per cent.
We don’t put much stock in our online poll — it’s a fun little feature of our website meant more to see what our readers are thinking than anything remotely scientific.
Of course, we can’t say for sure the Liberal camp wasn’t doing the same thing earlier in the day — we just don’t know. But if yesterday’s skewed online results and that email are any indication, the Forum Research poll has the Tories a little spooked.
