Canada's Morgan Grant advances to finals in two events at Calgary Stampede

CALGARY - Morgan Grant of Granton, Ont., advanced to the steer wrestling final with a 4.3 second run on Friday to win the final day of Pool B action at the Calgary Stampede and hung on in the tie-down roping to be one of the qualifiers there as well.

Grant finished first in steer wrestling for Pool B with $13,500, followed by Matt Reeves ($11,000), Cody Cassidy ($9,500) and Trevor Knowles ($8,000). Olin Hannum had the same earnings, but Knowles advances under the tie-breaker rules since he had the fastest individual time in a go-round.

In the tie-down roping, Matt Shiozawa won for the third day in a row and a time of 7.9 seconds snagged him an extra $5,500.

Shiozawa cleaned up in Pool B, with $21,000 in winnings. Joining him in Sunday's final will be Shane Hanchey ($16,000), Nathan Baldwin ($7,500), and Grant ($7,500).

Ty Pozzobon of Merritt, B.C., held on to first place in the Pool B bull riding standings, even as the competition gained ground.

Possobon scored an 84.50 adding to his aggregate earnings of $14,5000. That performance allowed American J.B. Mauncey to close the gap with an 89.00 performance, the best of the day.

Mauncey jumped into second in the standings with $13,5000 in earnings, passing Zane Lambert of Ponoka, Alta. Lambert scored no points, falling into a tie for third with American Mike Lee at $10,500 in earnings. Lee scored 87.50 points on Friday.

In saddle bronc riding, Chad Ferley scored 86 points on the best ride of the day to earn $5,500.

Wade Sundell took top honours in the Pool B standings, with his $19,000. He was followed by Ferley ($13,500), Cody Wright ($10,500) and Cort Scheer ($9,000).

A trio of riders earned 87.5 points each from the judges in bareback riding. Austin Foss, Luke Creasy and Justin McDaniel each picked up $4,500. That gave McDaniel the top spot for Pool B bareback riders with $14,000. He'll be joined in Sunday's final by Steven Peebles ($12,500), Foss ($11,500) and Kaycee Feild ($9,000).
