Toronto FC forward Jermaine Defoe joins teammate Michael Bradley on All-Star team

TORONTO - Toronto FC forward Jermaine Defoe will join teammate Michael Bradley on the 2014 MLS All-Star team after being named to the team on Saturday.

MLS All-Stars coach Caleb Porter selected Defoe for the final 23-man roster after fans voted in the starting 11 on Wednesday — which included Bradley.

The 2014 All-Star game will consist of MLS All-Stars against German Bundesliga Champions FC Bayern Munich on Aug. 6 at Providence Park in Portland, Ore.

Defoe has made a combined 15 appearances for Toronto FC in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and three assists. He was also named MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters for Week 2. The 31-year-old is currently in his first season with Toronto FC after the club reached a transfer agreement with English Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur FC back in January.

The 26-year-old Bradley has suited up in eight contests with Toronto FC this season after transferring from Italian Serie A club AS Roma and has one goal. The midfielder started and played every minute of the U.S. men's national team's four games during the 2014 World Cup. It's his first MLS All-Star selection, but second appearance after playing for AS Roma in the 2013 All-Star game.
