Defending champs out

Corey Billaney drove in three runs for the Boissevain Centennials as they advanced to the South West Baseball League championship series with an 8-1 road win over the defending champion Hartney Hoppers on Thursday.

Jay Pringle scattered seven hits in his complete-game effort for Boissevain, which took the best-of-five semifinal 3-1 and will face the Hamiota Red Sox in the final. Ty Workman scored one run and drove in two others for the Centennials, while Skylar Canada and Jagger Thomas both scored twice and picked up one RBI.

Mark Derlago pitched for all seven innings and took the loss for Hartney. He also drove in Nick Cowan for the team’s only run.
