Papirny, Coulter shine in intrasquad
Jordan Papirny was perfect in goal during the second half of the game as White overcame a 3-1 deficit, while Tyler Coulter of Brandon scored twice for the winners.
White the competition will only intensify from here as the Wheat Kings begin the Western Hockey league pre-season by visiting the Regina Pats on Thursday, Papirny was happy to finish training camp with a strong performance.
"Everything you do here is competition. It's tough sitting out for half the game, then you have to go in cold, but I think I did good," said Papirny, who made 17 saves after replacing starter Curtis Honey midway through the game. "I thought it was a good game and I'm glad we won that."
Veteran Eric Roy also scored two goals for White, with one of them coming into an empty net. Jesse Gabrielle and Nick Buonassisi rounded out the scoring for White.
Alessio Bertaggia, with two, and Kailum Gervais scored in the first period for Team Black.
After the game, the Wheat Kings reassigned 11 players, including Coulter and fellow Brandonites Brett Kitt and Ty Webber, leaving them with 32 going into the pre-season.
