Athletes bring home medals

Westman athletes dominated the final days of the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Vancouver, with most of them bringing home medals.

The soccer team, which was made up entirely of Westman athletes, won silver in Division B, while Manitoba’s softball team, comprised entirely of players from the southwest corner of the province, also won a silver medal in Division B.

Meanwhile, Tammy Lumax finished the three-round, 27-hole golf competition with 217 strokes to win a silver medal in the F2 division.

Danny Peaslee needed 133 strokes to win bronze in the M1 division.

Lucille Cassells won a silver medal in the 5-pin bowling singles F8 division, while Laurie Goodon placed eighth in the F4 division.

Dwayne Petch claimed silver in the M10 singles event, while Keith Jacobson narrowly missed a medal by finishing fourth in the M3 division.
