Aussies rally to beat Canucks

The Canadian men’s volleyball team blew a two-set lead and lost 3-2 (25-27, 20-25, 30-28, 25-17, 15-13) to Australia in a World League match on Friday in Edmonton.

Neither setter Dustin Schneider of Brandon nor outside hitter Toon Van Lankvelt of Rivers played for Canada (4-3), which got a match-high 26 kills from Gavin Schmitt.

Paul Carroll led Australia (3-4) with 19 kills, while former Brandon University Bobcat Paul Sanderson started the first four sets and picked up four kills and a block for the winners.

The teams play again tonight in Edmonton

(8 o’clock, Sportsnet One).
