Mike Driedger pitched four solid innings and reached base three times as the Austin A’s earned their first Santa Clara Baseball League home win, 4-1 over the Neepawa Cubs on Wednesday night.
Driedger singled twice and was hit by a pitch. On the mound, he limited the Cubs to one run before giving way to Chris Single, who got the save. The Cubs loaded the bases twice with no out, but failed to push across a run both times.
Mark Tibbett took the loss for Neepawa.
In another SCBL game on Wednesday, Andrew Richards was sharp on the mound and at the plate as the Minnedosa Mavericks earned an 11-2 road win over the Carberry Royals.
Richards scattered six hits in six innings, giving up two runs and striking out five. Offensively, he was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two runs. John Hutton went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Minnedosa, while Bryce Stevenson singled and walked twice, scoring two runs.
Dustin Fisher hit a two-run homer for the Royals, while Scott Witherspoon allowed eight runs in four innings to take the loss.
