Australia beats France in World League group final

Brandon University Bobcat alumnus Paul Sanderson and the Australian men’s volleyball team have advanced to the FIVB World League finals.

Sanderson started each set on Saturday and finished with six kills, three aces and two blocks as the host Australians, who had not won a World League match prior to this year, beat France 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 16-14) in the Group 2 final on Saturday in Sydney.

Edgar Thomas led Australia with 22 kills.

The Volleyroos now head off to Italy, where they will take on the United States on Thursday and Italy on Friday.

The top two teams in the pool advance to Saturday’s semifinals.
