Barbarians dominate in season opener

Steph Dornn scored one try, four conversions and a penalty kick for the Brandon Barbarians women’s team as it opened the Rugby Manitoba season with a dominating 51-5 win over the Brumbies on Saturday in Winnipeg.

Dory Holt and Breanne Morgan both added a pair of tries for Brandon, which led 29-0 at the half, while Jamee George and Kayla Bauche also touched the ball down. The Barbarians’ next game will be against the Wasps at John Reilly Field on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, Sean Common scored two tries and added three conversions as the Barbarians Division 1 men’s squad edged the Saracens 21-18 in their first game of the Manitoba Cup tournament on Saturday in Winnipeg. Owen Hagen scored Brandon’s other try.
