If there was one word to describe the play of the Brandon Barbarians men’s Division 2 rugby team on Sunday, it would be consistency.
The Barbarians travelled to Portage la Prairie to take on the Sturgeon Creek Rowdies in a doubleheader — making up a previously postponed game as well as playing a regularly scheduled one — and came out on top 33-0 in both Rugby Manitoba contests.
In the opener, Sean Common scored three tries and Wyatt Rapsky added four conversions for the Barbarians (5-4). Tom Robson and Michael Birch supplied the other tries.
In the second game, Common added two more tries and Rapsky booted four conversions again and added a try. Tyler Jury and Brad Lewis also touched the ball down.
Meanwhile, Victoria Gilby and Kayla Bauche both scored a pair of tries for the Barbarians’ women’s team as they beat the Rowdies 34-19 in their Division 1 game. Ashley Kerik and Jamee George also had tries for Brandon (1-1), while Steph Dornn kicked two conversions.
The women’s team is back in action on Wednesday when they host the Saracens in Portage at 6:45 p.m.
Both men’s teams are off until Sept. 7.
