Brandon’s Lisa Barclay of the UBC Thunderbirds women’s volleyball team was one of three runners-up for the BLG Award as CIS female athlete of the year on Monday night.
Barclay, a Crocus Plains graduate, led the country in kills (4.26) and points (4.99) per set and was named the most valuable player in the CIS, helping the T-Birds win a silver medal at nationals. Basketball player Justine Colley of Saint Mary’s University won the BLG award after being named CIS player of the year and finishing third in the country in scoring (20.8 points per game) behind former Brandon University Bobcats guard Cassie Cooke (23.6 ppg).
Philip Scrubb, who was named CIS player of the year after leading the Carleton Ravens to their fourth straight CIS men’s basketball title while averaging 18.6 points per game this season, won the BLG male athlete of the year award.
