No member of the Brandon University Bobcats won any awards or were named to Canada West’s women’s volleyball all-star teams, but the Wheat City wasn’t shut out entirely.
Brandonite Lisa Barclay, a left-side hitter with the UBC Thunderbirds, was named to the conference’s first all-star team. Barclay, who was part of the national women’s volleyball program for the last two summers, finished third in Canada West with 3.79 kills and 4.44 points per set. She helped guide the top-ranked Thunderbirds to a 21-1 record, and the right to host the conference final four.
UBC will play for the conference championship on Saturday, as it won its final four semifinal 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-16) over the Mount Royal Cougars on Thursday. Barclay had 11 kills and four blocks.
The T-Birds will also compete for their sixth straight national title at the CIS championship in Sherbrooke, Que., from Feb. 28-March 2.
