Coltyn Bates kept the Brandon Midget AAA Wheat Kings rolling right along on Saturday night.
Bates had two goals and an assist as the Wheat Kings ran their record to 7-1-0 in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League with a 6-2 victory over the Parkland Rangers at the Sportsplex.
In other Saturday action, it was: Central Plains Capitals 5, Southwest Cougars 3. On Sunday, it was: Yellowhead Chiefs 5, Capitals 3; and Parkland Rangers 6, Cougars 5 (SO).
Chiefs 5 Capitals 3
At Shoal Lake, Josh Martin and Tyler Dereniwski both had a goal and a helper for the host Chiefs (4-4-0), who also got goals from Tanner Koroscil, Logan Young and Logan Robinson. MacGregor’s Connor Nichol made 42 saves for the Capitals (2-6-0).
Rangers 6 Cougars 5 (SO)
At Dauphin, Cody Ellingson tied the game with nine seconds left in regulation time and scored again in the shootout for Rangers (3-3-2). Tyler Kirkup led the Cougars (3-5-1) with a goal and two assists. Southwest’s Tyler Crowe stopped 16 of 20 shots before giving way to Josh Diaz at the start of the third period. Diaz made 16 saves.
Wheat Kings 6 Rangers 2
Robert Hechler had a goal and an assist, Jesse Lawrence notched a goal and a helper, while Ty Lewis and James Shearer rounded out the Brandon scoring. Tristin Langan and Cody Ellingson replied for the Rangers. Reid Stallard made 14 saves for Brandon, while Parkland goalie Brett Evans stopped 34 shots.
Capitals 5 Cougars 3
At Portage la Prairie, the Capitals got a goal and two assists from Stephen MacKenzie. Joshua Blondeau, Victor Knaub, Braden Frank and Devin Muir also scored for Central Plains. Michael Fortin, Graeme Hore and Keaton Jameson struck for the Cougars, who took a 3-1 lead into the third period.
