Bears beat Bobcats

A solid effort wasn’t good enough for the fifth-ranked Brandon University Bobcats men’s volleyball team Friday night at the Healthy Living Centre, as they fell 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23) to the top-ranked Alberta Golden Bears.

Sam Tuivai led Brandon (10-5) with 20 kills. Roy Ching added 13 more and two aces, while Craig Lowe chipped in with eight kills and four blocks. Mitch Irvine led Alberta (15-0) with 15 kills.

The two teams will battle again at the HLC tonight at 6:45.

At Vancouver, the Bobcats women’s basketball team (0-13) fell 78-39 to the fifth-ranked UBC Thunderbirds (10-3).

Carrera Lamoureux had 10 points for BU while Chantel Gaslard had six points and five rebounds.

The men’s game was still in progress late last night. Both basketball teams visit the Victoria Vikes tonight.
