The Saskatoon Blades and the Brandon Wheat Kings were the biggest players before an otherwise quiet Western Hockey League trade deadline, taking part in six of Thursday’s eight swaps.
The Blades made four deals, giving away two first-round WHL Bantam Draft picks. Before sending this year’s first-round choice to the Wheat Kings for Mike Ferland, they shipped their 2015 first-rounder and a fifth-round choice this year to the Spokane Chiefs for forward Collin Valcourt. Valcourt, 19, had 13 goals, 23 points and 70 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Chiefs.
