Blizzard eliminate Wolverines

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines gave up three goals in the first six minutes of Friday’s Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoff game in The Pas, and couldn’t come back as they fell 5-4 to the host OCN Blizzard and saw their season come to an end.

Daniel Stagg of Killarney had a goal and an assist for the Blizzard, who got 45 saves from Killarney’s Brian Archibald as they won the best-of-three play-in series 2-1.

Brenden Luschinski scored twice for the Wolverines, while Brandonite Justin Holder stopped 37 shots.

The Blizzard advance to the best-of-seven Sher-Wood Division semifinal against the Dauphin Kings, who will host Game 1 on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The other Sher-Wood Division semifinal between the Virden Oil Capitals and the Swan Valley Stampeders starts in Virden today at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the opening game of the best-of-seven Addison Division semifinal between the Portage Terriers and the host Steinbach Pistons was still in progress at press time.
