The Winnipeg Blues were led by a balanced attack as they beat the visiting Virden Oil Capitals 3-2 in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Sunday night.
Joel Schreyer, Jeremy Olinyk and Jared Morris all scored for Winnipeg (28-12-1), which didn’t have a single player record more than one point in the contest.
Sean Collins and Brandonite Cody Nelson replied for Virden (16-23-6), which got a two-assist performance from Souris’ Jordan Greig.
In Sunday’s other game, it was Swan Valley Stampeders 6, Selkirk Steelers 5 in a shootout.
On Saturday, it was: Stampeders 5, Oil Capitals 3; Selkirk Steelers 4, OCN Blizzard 3 in a shootout; and Portage Terriers 4, Winkler Flyers 3.
Stampeders 6 Steelers 5 (SO)
At Swan River, Kyle Smart scored once in regulation and was the only player to score in the shootout. Killarney’s Colton Magwood added one helper for the Stampeders (26-14-4). Brandonite Riley Feser stopped 46 shots for Selkirk (24-18-3).
Stampeders 5 Oil Capitals 3
On Saturday at Swan River, Smart paced the Stamps with two goals and an assist. Greig had a goal and an assist for the Oil Capitals, while Cory Haverstick and Lyrik Friesen each scored once.
Steelers 4 Blizzard 3 (SO)
At The Pas, Feser stopped 36 shots in regulation and overtime, then denied eight of OCN’s 10 shootout attempts. Brandonite Josh Elmes assisted on two goals for the league-leading Blizzard (29-14-4).
Terriers 4 Flyers 3
At Winkler, Bryce Lipinski and Riley Hay each had a goal and an assist for the Terriers (24-15-1). Brandonite Tanner Jago set up two goals for the Flyers (12-23-8), including one by Cartwright’s Jory Mullin.
