Blues push Kings to the brink

The Winnipeg Blues are one win away from winning their first Manitoba Junior Hockey League championship since 2006.

Winnipeg took a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven league final with a 4-1 win over the visiting Dauphin Kings on Friday night. Kamerin Nault, Warren Callis, Lucas Skrumeda and Mitch Hansen scored for the Blues, while Byron Spriggs made 31 saves.

Dillan McCombie scored the lone goal for the Kings on a power play late in the third period. Kings goalie Michael Stiliadis was pulled 9:21 into the game after giving up three goals on nine shots. Jordan Piccolino stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced the rest of the way.

The Blues will try to wrap up the series on Sunday when they visit Dauphin at 7:30 p.m.
