Sebastien Steigmeier and Switzerland’s run at the European men’s volleyball championship didn’t last very long.
The Brandon University Bobcat right side racked up some impressive stats in the first round of the competition in Hungary on the weekend, but he couldn’t help Switzerland get out of its group and into the second round.
Switzerland went 1-2 to finish third in its pool and had its aspirations of going deep into the tournament thwarted.
Switzerland closed out the event on Sunday with its lone victory. Steigmeier, a 6-foot-7, 220-pound right side from Geneva, posted 26 kills, two blocks and as ace as his team beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 23-25, 25-19, 16-14).
In Saturday’s 3-1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-14, 25-17) loss to Norway, Steigmeier had 21 kills and a block. He recorded eight kills and two blocks in Friday’s 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-21) loss to the host Hungarians.
